I am a trained History teacher with a passion for my subject and a desire to inspire that same passion in my students. My career has spanned 24 years and I am very proud of the fact that I have helped set up a brand new high school in west London. In my role as Head of Humanities, I have loved being able to use my skills and expertise to support students in their learning and thoroughly enjoyed teaching History from KS3 to A level. Recently, I decided to take my life in new direction and set up my own tutoring business, West London History Tutor, in 2019, so that I could spend more time with my family and friends, and travel the world.

    Marcus Pailing

I've been teaching for around 15 years, and am currently Head of History at a school in Leicester, where I teach AQA GCSE and A-Level. Much of the past few years has been taken up developing the new GCSE course, and I even sat the exam in 2018 - so I could really understand what my students were going through. Outside work I live and breathe History - in fact, I'm not sure there's much that I do that doesn't involve it in some way! I love to travel, so long as it involves visiting historical sites, whether Roman ruins, medieval castles, or relics of the Cold War. (My family and friends tend to roll their eyes whenever I announce my next adventure.) I'm delighted to be part of this project, and I am sure that the app will prove invaluable to students for many years to come.

I have worked for over thirteen years as a teacher and currently lead History at a wonderful School in East Lancashire, teaching GCSE, as well as A-level History. I also work as an examiner for AQA and have taken on advisory roles in implementing the recent GCSE specifications.

My philosophy for teaching is the work never stops. My love and zeal for History can be contagious and I aim to share this with my learners. We are living in a world today where the decisions and events of the past are being re-scrutinized and as educators, we are fortunate to play a major role in formulating new historiographies.

This fantastic project has been a real pleasure, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with colleagues within the field, the app will be a great aide for our learners.
