Watson and Averill were homesteaders. Their homestead was in the middle of a large, open-range pasture used by cattleman Albert Bothwell.

What happened to Watson and Averill?

Watson was accused of stealing cattle from Bothwell. She denied this. Watson and Averill were both hanged by Bothwell and his men. Bothwell then took their land and cattle for himself.
