Literature in the 1930s

What type of literature did people read in 1930s America?
Many great works of American literature were produced in this period. They often reflected on life in poverty, using the real experiences of the Depression as their subjects. A famous example is John Steinbeck's 1939 novel, 'The Grapes of Wrath'.
