Were there many women doctors?
Women began to train as doctors in the 1800s, although they faced a lot of opposition. Some of the key early female doctors were Elizabeth Garrett-Anderson, Frances Hoggan, and Sophia Jex-Blake.
When were women able to become doctors?
In 1876, the British government passed a law stating that women should not be prevented from becoming doctors. By 1891, there were 65 female doctors in Britain.
