What was the impact of the Second World War on the Cold War?
After the German attack on the Soviet Union in 1941, the Russians joined the 'Grand Alliance' with Britain and the USA. The desire to defeat a common enemy meant that old suspicions were put aside. However, mistrust between the allies returned once the defeat of Hitler became inevitable, as both sides looked to influence the postwar world.
