Soon after seizing power in Petrograd in November 1917, the Bolsheviks began to refer to themselves as communists.
When did the Bolsheviks became the Communist Party?
The Russian Communist Party was named in March 1918.
What did the Communist Party believe in?
The Communist Party held 3 main beliefs:
  • The theory of communism of Karl Marx.
  • This theory stated that there would be a revolution in which the workers would rise up and abolish the private ownership of land, property and business.
  • Power would be in the hands of the workers and would be run for the benefit of the workers.
