In March 1946, Churchill made a speech in the USA that criticised the USSR and called it a threat to world peace. Stalin thought this reflected America's beliefs. This speech is referred to as the 'Iron Curtain' speech.
What was Churchill's views on the policy of appeasement?
Winston Churchill was an opponent of appeasement, describing it as 'an unmitigated disaster'. Churchill told Britain and France they would have to choose between war and dishonour, and that Hitler was not done expanding the Third Reich.
