Bussing

What was bussing?

To force desegregation, bussing was used. This involved using buses to transport children from black areas to a white area to go to school, or vice versa.

Why did people not like bussing?

People objected because they did not want their children to attend a mixed-race school or have to travel across town.

How did people avoid bussing?

Some white parents moved away from urban areas to avoid their children having to be educated alongside black children.
