What was the American dream?
The 'American dream' is the idea that there is equality of opportunity in America. Anyone can become anything if they work hard enough. Some people believe this was achieved after the Second World War.
Was the American dream achieved after the Second World War?
Some people believe that post-war America was a time of the American dream, as people could afford luxury goods such as ovens, televisions and cars. America's growing population was consuming one third of the world's goods and services.
Why was the American dream not achieved after the Second World War?
Some people believe that post-war America was not a time of the American Dream. 25% of people were still living in poverty, and there was no free health service or sickness pay.
